Love Letter to the Earth

Love Letter to the Earth by Thich Nhat Hanh
Bookshop; Barnes & Noble; AbeBooks; ThriftBooks; Quail Ridge
This book is relatively short, highly readable, thought provoking, and a great selection to breathe in our current chaotic times.
The author, Thick Nhat Hanh -- Vietnamese Buddhist monk; peace advocate, religious scholar, author, poet and teacher; considered to be the father of Engaged Buddhism in which the teachings of Buddhism are applied to contemporary situations of social, political, environmental, and economic suffering and injustice; has strongly impacted 20th and 21st century Buddhist thought and practice, especially in Europe and the western hemisphere; had long term associations with Martin Luther King Jr and Thomas Merton; was submitted for the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize by Martin Luther King.
Love Letter to the Earth -- Thick Nhat Hanh expresses our need to move beyond the concept of environment, as it leads people to experience themselves and Earth as two separate entities. On the contrary, mankind should accept their “oneness” with Earth and live in peace with Earth. Also, the author presents a recipe to achieve inner peace in our current chaotic times.

Jesus and John Wayne
We will start Jesus and John Wayne: How White Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation by Kristin Kobes Du Mez on October 20, 2025, Monday at noon.
From the back of the book: "Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account that reveals how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism - or, in the words of one modern chaplain, with a "spiritual badass."
As Kristin Kobes Du Mez explains, "the key to understanding this transformation is to recognize the role of culture in modern American evangelicalism."
