On Sunday, December 3 we celebrated the 80th birthday of the church! Rev. Steve Hickle was our guest preacher at the 11:00 AM morning service and after the service we gathered in the Fellowship Hall for a good, old-fashioned potluck luncheon.
Eighty Years Ago - On December 5, 1937, the first service of Fairmont Methodist was held in Pullen Hall on the NC State College campus. One of the hymns sung at their first service, "I Love Thy Kingdom, Lord," will be our closing hymn this Sunday, December 3. The first organizational meeting was held December 19, 1937. The first Sunday School was organized on January 2, 1938 and by the end of January there were 135 charter members.
Organized to benefit Methodist families in West Raleigh and at the area colleges, Fairmont now serves as church home to diverse people from across the county and beyond, is home to the Raleigh Wesley Foundation (celebrating their 75th anniver-sary) has a preschool, hosts many groups, and has embraced ministries addressing Cerebral Palsy, homelessness, hunger, mental illness, and more.
