Letters from Pastor Liz - Letter 2 - March 18

Beloved Fairmont Family and Friends,

Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. I have spent time praying for each of you and for the larger world in the midst of the current crisis and circumstances. I know for many, this is a particularly difficult time. I’m thinking especially of our medical professionals, for those employed in grocery stores and pharmacies, our college students that headed blissfully into spring break and remain scattered, and our high school seniors that are looking at a lot of missed moments and unknowns ahead of them.

As the church, we have a unique perspective on life and on times of distress. We will continue to live in hope and trust the promise that the worst thing is not the last thing. This is a moment to take seriously the instructions of the medical professionals and government officials, but not to panic. While activity at the church building has becoming increasingly limited, the church is being increasingly active! I encourage you to reach out to one another. Stay connected. If you know someone in need of some care or supplies, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and let me know.

This Sunday was scheduled to be our Wesley Student Sunday, with worship led by our wonderful students at the Raleigh Wesley Foundation. We are working this week to connect with them and put together our worship for this Sunday. Thanks to all who joined in live (or worshiped later) via our Facebook live service this past week.

The work of the church continues and many of our committees are continuing to meet via conference calls and video conferencing. If any of our Sunday school classes or small groups would like to meet electronically, or if you would be interested in joining an online small group/bible study, please let me know.

In all of this, I pray that you are attending to your wellbeing, your spirit, and being mindful of our neighbors.

Blessings and Peace from our house to yours!

Pastor Liz

Letter 1 - March 12

Dear Fairmont Family and Friends,

In light of the recommendations of Church leadership*, medical professionals, and our local government, we are proceeding with an abundance of caution and to be faithful to our larger community, we are cancelling Sunday worship at Fairmont for the next 2 weeks. We are working on a live streaming option and will send out a link as soon as it is available.

I encourage our committees, Bible studies, Sunday school classes, etc. to get creative in how we stay in touch and communicate with one another. Zoom, conference calls, google hangouts are all ways groups can continue to meet. We will continue to have the building available to the many recovery programs that normally meet here.

With new developments, we will make our best informed decisions and judgements as to how we will proceed. If you, or someone you know, is in need in a way the church can help, please reach out to me at (919)210-4682 or This email address is being protected from spambots.  Although our familiar rhythms of church life are changing for the moment, the on-going work of the church continues. Your continued financial contributions and offerings are much needed and celebrated. Mail contributions to 2501 Clark Ave, Raleigh, NC 27607 or give online at https://www.fairmontumc.org/giving-at-fairmont.html

I am praying for each of you during this time, for our many college students experiencing disruption in their studies, our local businesses and how they will be affected, our healthcare workers giving of themselves for the care of others, and for those affected by this virus. I invite you to join me in those prayers.

With the love of Christ I offer peace to you this day,

Pastor Liz
