Hurricane Relief

We hope that our Fairmont Folks have weathered the storm. As we look ahead to the extended clean up and relief work there will be many ways to help. We will post information as we receive it regarding needs.

Below is a letter from the Capital District:

Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Bishop Hope has asked the Capital District to team up with the Sound District to offer relief, clean-up and rebuilding assistance. We in the Capital District want to make sure that we respond to our neighbors with compassion and kindness during the aftermath of Hurricane Florence. We ask that you pray for those who have been affected by the devastation of the storm and then let's get up and go to work.
The question is, how can we help?

Bob Rose (Capital District Disaster Response Coordinator (252) 885-2440 and This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) has asked that we respond in the following manner so that our efforts will be coordinated and effective.

Our immediate response can be to collect and donate funds. Give online at https://nccumc.org/disaster/. 100% of your donation goes to response/relief efforts. Checks may be given to local churches marked “S00176 – NC Storm Emergency Response” on the memo line or sent payable to the Conference Treasurer – Raleigh Area, P.O. Box 890202, Charlotte, NC 28289-0202.
In addition, cleaning kits and hygiene kits will be needed. Churches are asked to assemble these per the guidelines at https://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies and hold them for further instruction for distribution.

We have individuals and teams trained in disaster response, and we are calling team leaders to prepare for deployment as soon as we know when the needs are greatest. Trained individuals should contact the Disaster Response Coordinator to be assigned to a team. Volunteers without training will be needed later in the coming weeks and months. Call (888) 440-9167 to volunteer. Also, training will be provided, and training locations will be published. The focus of this work is on cleanup, not on reconstruction at this time.
