WIHN
The Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network (WIHN) has ministered with homeless families for more than five years. It is a structured plan which enables local churches to house families in need. Guests are screened before entering the program and must consist of either two parent families with children, single parents with children, couples expecting a child or single women. Most persons approved for the program are working and need assistance to get back into permanent housing.
They house 3-5 families at a time and help them to access the resources and job skills needed to move from homelessness to “home.” Churches share in this partnership by hosting the families a week at a time, three or four times each year. For 12 years, we provided overnight housing, dinner, breakfast and bag lunches.
In 2011, we move into a new phase with “Adopt an Apartment,” where we will furnish one of WIHN’s 12 new apartments for the year long transitional program. For more information, email Henry Jarrett at the church’s email address, fairmont@intrex.net.
