Steve Hickle

Minister

The Rev. Steve Hickle (Pastor Steve) has been here since 1990. A native Iowan and graduate of Iowa State University (BS, Fisheries and Wildlife Biology), he also graduated (M Div) from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (on Northwestern’s campus). He has served churches in Johnston, Craven, and Alamance counties. He has given leadership to the NC Conference by chairing the Commission on Archives and History and also the Board of Church and Society. He has given local leadership through Urban Ministries of Wake County and Mission House for Women (transitional program for women in recovery). He is involved with the Healing Place for Men, and has helped Fairmont to become widely known as “recovery friendly.” He has worked with Stop Hunger Now since it moved into Fairmont’s space in 2000, with six years on the board and three as chair. He currently serves as convener for Congregations For Social Justice. Steve is married to Peggy, lately retired as a school media specialist. Their son, Jesse and his wife, Sarah live in Griffith, Indiana, where Jesse is working as a music therapist.
